Inspiration Ganesha, Mumbai

Lord Ganesha, another form of ‘Om' is one of the most loved Indian Gods and is worshipped on several auspicious occasions by Hindus, especially during Diwali. With Diwali and Ganesh Chaturti (Lord Ganesh’s immersion into the Arabian sea, bringing the entire city to a standstill) just around the corner, it is befitting that the most endearing God is captured on various media. So if you collect eastern religious art and iconography or in fact are a follower of everything Ganesh symbolizes, do head to the ICIA and D.D. Neroy Gallery in Mumbai this week.

Vijay Nyalpelly

On August 17th, the ICIA Gallery at Kala Ghoda will showcase an exhibition by artist Vinod T and art lovers as well as Ganesha worshippers can admire the sculptors of the Lord in different forms. Known for their creativity and innovation, the gallery is adding its touch by serving Lord Ganesha’s favourite sweetmeat “modaks”, (delicious elongated dumplings filled with sweet dessicated coconut). The exhibition carries on till 5th September. For queries please call 91-22-22048138/ 39.

Vijay Nyalpelly
The D.D. Neroy Gallery hosted “Inspiration Ganesha” by artist Vijay Nyalpelly from August 6th – 13th. An alumni of the prestigious J.J. School of Art, the artist is actually a “graphic designer” with a Publication House in Mumbai and has been painting Lord Ganesha since his childhood. Since then he has created over 40 variations of Ganesha and each painting exhibited at the exhibition has taken over a month to create. Integrating “Om’ with bright and beautiful colours, his depictions of Lord Ganesha actually left me spellbound. One gets an overwhelming feeling of the artists passion and connection with his subject. The paintings can be viewed on http://vijaynyalpelly.com/ and the gallery can be contacted on 91-22-23611124.

Rupali Shroff

Yet again on August 17th, the D.D. Neroy Gallery will host “Immortal”, another exhibition of Lord Ganesha’s paintings, where bright colours give way to pastels by artist Rupali Shroff. An artist from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, the artists impressions of Lord Ganesha have been created in traditional and elaborate forms and the exhibition is on till August 24th, from 11 a.m. till 7 p.m. The gallery could also be contacted on ddneroygallery@gmail.com.
