MONDAINE REVEALS IMPRESSIVE SALES FIGURES IN 2009

The Mondaine watch company, responsible for the development and manufacture of the Official Swiss Railways Watch, ended 2009 with impressive sales growth in the UK and enjoyed similar success around the world. The UK saw its retail sales increase by close to 40% in the last quarter of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008, and is one of very few watch brands that thrived during the year.

The simple design and distinctive features of a Mondaine Official Swiss Railways watch are unmistakeable. Renowned for its famous red second hand, the iconic design is instantly recognisable and is a perfect miniature replica of the famous railway clocks that have kept time at railways stations across Switzerland since 1944.
Mondaine is owned by the Bernheim family who turned the railway clock into a watch in 1986 and has since seen the brand grow in popularity across Europe and in the US. “We decided against participating in the recession” said Andre Bernheim, CEO at Mondaine. “Our watches are affordable, design classics that offer fantastic value for money, and our success over the last year is evidence that this is what consumers are looking for in this unsettling time” he added.
The UK has made significant progress and at the end of 2009 was 59% ahead in value compared to the previous year. (The US also experienced 25% growth.) It also increased its retail accounts, widening its availability across the UK. Derek Salter, UK Brand Director is confident that 2010 will be another strong year for the brand. “Last year we were able to improve awareness of Mondaine on a consumer and trade level and this has led to increased demand. In the Spring we will be welcoming our first multiple group as a partner, which we believe will strengthen the brand even further in 2010.”
Mondaine is available at watch and jewellery boutiques across the UK, as well as gift shops and department stores. The brand is distributed by Burton McCall in the UK.
