Tate Britain hosted a major Francis Bacon retrospective which included about 60 of his most important paintings from throughout his turbulent life. He is world famous for his depictions of twisted and often tortured images of people and animals which incorporate sentiments of sexuality, violence and isolation. Upon close scrutiny you can see how he applied the paint to the canvas using a variety of different media including knives and combs.
